Georgian/Antebellum
- this home is the largest and oldest home of its kind
in the state of Georgia. Completed in 1914 by the renowned
Architect J. Neel Reid, a member of the Schutze Reid
firm, it was originally built on 500 acres for author
James Dickey. The exterior of the house has many features,
including a formal garden on the side and a level lawn
below the back terrace. Both areas lend themselves to
perfect settings for outdoor garden parties. The back
lawn can even be tented and heated for mid Winter seated
affairs of up to 500 guests.
The
formal entry showcases the Great Hall with a double
staircase and an ornate crystal chandelier framing the
view to French doors leading to the back terrace. The
living room, to the left of the Great Hall, is highlighted
with an antique piano and an intricately carved mantle
over the fireplace. This space is perfect for guests
to sit and chat prior to entering the solarium. The
solarium is a great area for additional bars and buffets
and leads to the back terrace through French doors and
to the porch overlooking the formal gardens. The library
is to the right of the Great Hall with its own intimate
setting for fireside chats. Across the hall is the formal
dining room featuring a solid table to seat 18 (or to
double as a main buffet), a sterling candelier, a massive
wooden breakfront with shelves full of antique service
pieces, and a fireplace opposite. French windows look
out from this room as well to the back terrace. A lounge
and water closet a located on the main level at the
end of the hallway provide privacy. Two additional powder
rooms (with an en suite bedroom that doubles as the
coat room) are at the head of the grand staircase allowing
your guests a glimpse of the living quarters.
No
smoking inside.
