Grand
Replica of The Academy de Medici: inside are treasures
from Southern Gothic and period pieces from the Civil
War era, Revolutionary period and Bleniham Palace all
showcasing a time reminiscent of days gone by. A private
drive leads to the estate nestled among the woods to
the home's front terrace. New Castle is located in the
heart of Buckhead on a wooded hill with formal boxwood
gardens and fountains in the rear. The home was created
by George Totton, a Washington, DC architect, who fell
in love with the Italian Renaissance Period while studying
in Rome and was completed in 1912.
As
you enter the foyer, a magnificent fireplace made of
Tennessee sandstone catches your breath. Immediately
behind you will find the formal living room with its
own fireplace, and Steinway piano. Adjacent to this
perfect setting for entertainment is the tea room with
fireplace and an antique Steinway. From here, guests
can exit the house onto a private terrace overlooking
the gardens and circle into the marble floored solarium
which allows access to the front terrace/entry. The
library flows from this room, with yet another fireplace,
and leads back to the foyer. Tucked under the stairs
is a powder room and from this hall, you have access
to the sitting room with French doors leading to the
front terrace and the butler's pantry with upstairs
kitchen and the formal dining room with, yes, you guessed
it, an ornately carved fireplace! Out the formal dining
room French doors is the porte cochiere with a covered
veranda that makes for a perfect outside buffet or action
station. The back terrace sits under a pergola and overlooks
the formal tiered garden. Guests will thrill over being
able to stroll or sit at tables scattered among the
hedges. The overall grace and grandeur of Newcastle
is to entertain in a truly Southern manner.
No
smoking inside.
